St Sebastian's Visitation Convent is one of the houses of Sisters of VisitationCongregation. The Visitation Congregation was founded by Rev. Fr Sebastian L. C. Presentaion on 29th January 1924 at Kattoor. The convent in Arthunkal was blessed by Rt Rev. Dr Joseph Alvernaz on 15th April 1948 of which the foundation stone was laid on 19th March 1947.

The principal service of the sisters in this convent is health care. By the endevour of Rev. Fr Dennis Arouj, they could start such a service in 1966, by providing health treatment to the people within the parish. On 26th July 1972, the new hospital came into existence, and today it has become one of the leading hospitals in the taluk, with almost all modern medical facilities. The hospital is now in the path of progress with a team of expert doctors, among which are two nun doctors from the same congregation. In association with this hospital, a nursing school and a mobile clinic are being run.

Besides healing ministry, the service of the sisters extent catechism in the parish, Basic Christian Community, Social services, House visits, Home for the aged, etc.
